Furniture
Make sure you know what you are getting when deciding to purchase furniture. This article addresses some of the important furniture questions to ask and inquire about.
Let’s face it, choosing the right furniture is a daunting task. There are so
many things to consider that you can almost be sure something is being
overlooked. On top of that, buying over the Internet brings a whole slew of
additional issues. That said however, there is a wealth of information online
that can help you find the right furniture for you. Here a short list of the
common things to consider when purchasing furniture:
Quality
The visual appearance of furniture does not necessarily mean quality. You’ll
want to inspect or ask questions to find out how good it is. Here are some
things to consider is determining the quality of furniture:
Type of Material
This is especially important when dealing with wood furniture. With the wide
range of qualities that exist, make sure it’s one that provides the value you
are looking for while maintaining the look.
Craftsmanship
Is it assembled by machine? Handmade? Bit of both? Find out so you know what to
expect. During shipping furniture often takes a beating and a poorly
manufactured piece of furniture can fall apart in no time.
Warranty
It’s fair to say that the longer the warranty on the furniture, the better the
quality. Find out how long the warranty is by both the manufacturer and the
store. Many of the stores try to up sell you a warranty for better in-store
coverage. It is commonly known these are not recommended. If you need an
extended warranty, perhaps you should stay away from that piece of furniture as
the quality may be suspect.
Price
Ok, you know what you want but are not quite sure you are getting the best
price. There are several things you can do to:
Ask Them – Often times the salesperson will be quite honest in their
answer. If there is indeed a place to get it cheaper, they will often beat
around the bush instead trying to focus on why buy from there is better. You’ll
hear things like “our service is better” or “we offer a better warranty”.
Check Online – A simple search online will give you the quick answer you
are looking for. By typing in something like “PRODUCT NAME” and Price should
show you results of pages with the price of the furniture you are looking to
purchase. You can also use a Home Shopping Comparison site which will compare the
pricing of several merchants who carry the desired furniture.
Visit Locally – Check out other areas locally to see if they carry it.
Often they may have access to it through catalog or their supplier in which case
they may give it to you cheaper to get your business.
These are just a small portion of things to consider, over time we’ll be
addressing many of the elements and will also break it down by specific type of
furniture.
