Stainless Steel Skillet
For home use, stainless steel skillets can be useful tools in your pot and pan collection. A commercial stainless skillet is a chef’s best friend. Cleaning and care for your skillet is essential to ensure a non-stick cooking surface. Many of the television chefs promote their own line of stainless cookware that is functional and beautiful. The best cookware for you may depend on if you have a gas or electric stovetop.
There are numerous types of stainless skillets on the market some of them very lightweight and some with heavier gauge steel. The term skillet and frying pan are used interchanged. A really lightweight set of cookware may be good for cooking a clear soup, but for fry pan or skillet use it may be prone to burn. For a gas range using a skillet with a curved bottom to sauté with will work great. You need to make sure it is a heavier gauge metal if you use it daily.
For an electric range, a flat-bottomed skillet is necessary to optimize heat. The cooking area of the skillet has to make direct contact with the stovetop for even distribution of heat. Some skillets have a thin layer of copper on the bottom of the pan. The copper is a great conductor of heat and will help your pan to heat faster and more evenly.
The variety of pans can make it difficult to choose from. The stainless steel skillet can come with a non-stick covering on the inside and many people prefer this for cooking omelets and eggs. Copper-bottomed fry pans with stainless steel inside the pan are beautiful pans and functional as well. There are also electric stainless skillets that are great for frying and roasting foods. These offer a consistent stream of heat that will self regulate with a thermostat constantly adjusting as your food cooks.
Cleaning your skillets and seasoning them will keep them from sticking and burning your food. Never wash you stainless steel pans in a dish machine you only have to use warm soapy water and a green scrub pad if necessary. When using a scrub pad always clean in the direction of the grain or lines in the pan. Also avoid extreme high heat when using your pans. Following some of these basic rules for care and your pans will give you many years of successful cooking.
With all the designer pans out on the market choosing a set of pans that will look good and function well is essential. Many people hang a pot and pan rack as seen in many restaurants in their home to proudly display their cookware. When using your stainless steel skillet you can rest assured you have made a great purchase.
